to join out team in Vienna, Austria.Role description
- Execute series of experiments to support the developmental program, all following established protocols, including:
- Expression and purification of proteins for scientific research
- Activity testing of lysins against bacterial strains (BSL-2 strains like Gardnerella, others)
- Directed evolution of enzymes
- Biofilm assays
- Isolation of bacteria from human and environmental samples
- Actively participate in designing the required experiments and improving the established protocols, as part of the lab team
- Develop capabilities in operating advanced equipment, including programming of a pipetting robot, documenting key methods
- Documentation of results according to the PhagoMed Quality Standards (non-GLP but close), to ensure the quality of results and their documentation are acceptable to regulatory authorities, working towards a human clinical trial application;
- Establish research processes according to the latest microbiological technology developments (e.g. robotics and genomic data);
- Maintain laboratory infrastructure together with the team, including purchasing of reagents and equipment, in-house preparation of materials like media and agar plates
Mandatory requirements
- Completed university degree in biology, molecular biology or a related subject.
- At least 1 year of (cumulative) laboratory experience
- At least 6 months research experience in at least one of the following areas:
- microbiology incl. handling of pathogenic bacteria and working in a BSL-2 laboratory
- protein expression and purification in E. coli, Pichia, or other expression systems
- molecular cloning, combinatorial methods, library screening
- Interest in targeted pharmaceutical development;
- Interest in working in a team of highly skilled and motivated professionals
- Fluent in English
Welcome add-on qualifications
- Experience in pharmaceutical research in a start-up/ company
- Experience in working in a controlled environment (GxP)
- Experience in operating equipment like pipetting robots,
- Experience in genomic analyses
